The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has today handed over a contingent of military vehicles to the Somali National Army (SNA) at a ceremony in Mogadishu.
Commander of the Somali National Army General Odowa Yusuf Rage took over the vehicles from the US command in Africa, and the ceremony was also attended by officials from AFRICOM and the country’s intelligence service.
AFRCOM says the vehicles handed over to the Somali government are for US-trained DANAB commandos to intensify the fight against al-Shabaab, which is fighting government and African Union forces.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, General Odawa thanked the United States for donating the vehicles to the Somali government.
The commander assured US officials that DANAB troops would use the vehicles as intended
The United States has pledged to continue supporting the Somali National Army in its fight against al-Shabab.
