Security agencies and the African Union Peace Council convene in Mogadishu

Mogadishu a delegation from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has today arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

The conference was attended by Minister of Defense Hassan Hussein Haji, Somali Minister of Justice Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, security officials, Director of Conflict Management of the African Union Council, Fiyona Looran, Head of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission, AMISOM Police Commissioner and other officials. The two-day conference will focus on an assessment by African Union leaders of Somalia’s security institutions.

The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Hussein Haji, briefed the conference on the ongoing rebuilding of the Somali Armed Forces and the recent gains made in the fight against Al-Shabaab terrorist militants.

The Minister of Justice, Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, for his part shared with the leaders of the African Union Peace Council the progress made in the field of justice and the country’s judiciary and their goals.

A meeting between the leaders of the African Union Peace Council and the country’s security agencies is expected to conclude on Thursday.
