Government forces are conducting a mine clearing operation in Wajid district of Bakol region


The Somali National Army (SNA) has in the past few hours carried out heavy operations in Wajid district of Bakool region and its environs.

The officials who led the operation said that their aim was to ensure security and that they managed to detonate a landmine planted by Al-Shabaab on the side of the road, to harm the civilians.

The officials also said that the operation was aimed at removing Al-Shabaab militants who sometimes carry out attacks in areas under the control of Wajid district.

Officials did not say what the outcome of the operation was, but said they would continue until security was restored in Wajid and its environs.
