The president of South West state Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen received in his office the women’s verification committee appointed by Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
The President discussed with the committee the confirmation of the 30% quota for women in the Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The president of South West has said that they will strengthen the quota for women, and now that the upper house has two women members, when the parliament starts they will protect the quota.
He noted that his administration is committed to ensuring that women run in elections and will maintain a transparent process for women.
The 13-member Women’s Quota Verification Committee, recently appointed by Roble, is currently working to persuade authorities to maintain the quota.
