The President of Puntland State of Somalia, Said Abdullahi Deni, has received at his office in Garowe a committee of lawyers for the Women’s Parliamentary Quota.
The meeting discussed issues related to Somalia’s elections and women’s quota in parliament, and the Committee thanked the President of Puntland for the opportunity provided by Puntland to women and for allocating quotas to members of the Upper House representing Puntland.
Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, shared with the committee the role of women in state-building in Somalia, noting that Puntland is considering the quota for women.
The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Somali Women’s Association Batulo Sheikh Ahmed Gabale who chaired the committee, members of the committee, the Director General of the Puntland Presidency and the Chairperson of the Puntland Women’s Association.
In recent days, the Women’s Quota Verification Committee has been touring the states, and a few days ago they discussed with the President of the South West how to strengthen the women’s quota, in line with the agreement of the National Electoral Consultative Council.
