Somali government forces, including military, police and intelligence, have carried out various operations areas under Garbaharey district, the capital of Gedo region.
The security operation was led by the commander of the 10th Battalion, General Warfa Sheikh Aden Farole, and most of the operations were carried out in the outskirts of Garbaharey district.
The troops were driving various types of military vehicles and were conducting searches of vehicles entering the district Garbaharey and its occupants.
The commander of the 10th Battalion, Warfa Sheikh Aden Farole, said the purpose of the operation was to prevent insecurity acts by Al-Shabaab and to ensure security in areas near Garbaharey district.
He also said that the operations will continue until they ensure security in the areas under Garbaharey district and prevent attacks by Al-Shabaab.
The operation by the Somali government forces in the areas under the control of Garbaharey district comes at a time when Al-Shabaab militants sometimes attack government bases in the district.
