The Special Forces of the Somali National Army (SNA) have carried out a planned operation in villages near Janale area in Marka, the capital of Lower Shabelle region.
The operation, led by officials from the Somali National Army and the Janale district administration, was carried out in the villages of Kaaytooy, Mushani, Xerta Doonka, Waagade and Kabtaan, all near Janale in the Lower Shabelle region.
Commander of the Special Forces of the Somali National Army Abdullahi Mustafe (Madaale Qaran) said that hundreds of people have been arrested in the operation, which he said is under investigation.
Janale district administration led by district commissioner Abdirahman Yusuf al-Adala and his deputy Aminga were part of the operation.
Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed at least 12 people.
Government forces and Janale district administration officials returned to the area after the operation, and military officials said the operation will continue.
